EC Rejects Resham Chaudhary’s Leadership Claim in Nagarik Unmukti Party-Nepal
The Election Commission of Nepal has rejected Resham Chaudhary’s claim to the chairmanship of the Nagarik Unmukti Party-Nepal. The Commission has affirmed the continuation of Ranjita Shrestha as the party’s chairperson, as confirmed by Joint Secretary Yagya Bhattarai.
According to Bhattarai, the decision to uphold Shrestha’s leadership was made in adherence to the Political Parties Act, which mandates the maintenance of the previous leadership if an individual is deemed ineligible.
Resham Chaudhary was selected as the chair during the party’s convention held in Tikapur, Kailali, on January 12. However, objections were raised following this decision, prompting the Election Commission to intervene.
In response to the objections filed, the EC sought clarification from Resham Chaudhary and the Nagarik Unmukti Party regarding whether a murder convict granted amnesty by the President could be relieved of previous charges.
