Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane Denies Guilt in Cooperatives Scam: “Just a Name on Paper”
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has firmly denied any involvement in the cooperatives scam, asserting that he has merely been named in the allegations without substantial evidence.
Addressing the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, Lamichhane emphasized that his association with the scam was limited to his name being mentioned, without any corroborating evidence of wrongdoing.
“In the documents where my name appears, there’s nothing else besides my name. No signature, no thumbprint, no submitted application, nor even a basic KYC form filled,” stated Lamichhane, defending his innocence.
Furthermore, Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Kunwar, affirmed during the meeting that there is a lack of evidence linking Lamichhane to the alleged scam.
Despite these assertions, the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, continues to push for the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry committee to delve into the cooperatives scam, citing Lamichhane’s purported involvement.
