Ilam-2 By-Polls: Maoist Center Pledges Support to Suhang Nembang
The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has pledged its backing to the CPN (UML) in the upcoming by-elections for Ilam constituency 2, scheduled for April 27.
Following a meeting between UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, it was decided to nominate Suhang Nembang as the common candidate for Ilam-2, as revealed by leader Dhirendra Sharma. This decision was backed unanimously by the Maoist Center Ilam District Working Committee.
“We will throw our full weight behind Suhang Nembang in the Ilam-2 by-elections, as per the consensus among the four parties of the ruling coalition,” Sharma affirmed. “Our efforts are already underway to ensure Suhang’s victory in the election.”
Furthermore, top leaders of the ruling coalition have agreed to field a Maoist Center candidate in the Bajhang Provincial Assembly (1) by-elections while extending support to the UML in Ilam-2, Sharma disclosed.
In the general elections of November 20, 2022, Maoist Center secured 5,153 proportional representational votes from Ilam-2, underscoring its significance in the upcoming by-polls.
Meanwhile, the UML has nominated Suhang Nembang for the Ilam-2 by-elections, following the passing of his father, Subas Nembang, on September 11, 2023.
The Election Commission of Nepal has scheduled April 6 as the deadline for parties to submit nominations, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral contest.
