Fugitive Convicted of Human Trafficking Captured After 26 Years
The Nuwakot police have successfully apprehended Junga Bahadur Tamang (Ram), a fugitive convicted of human trafficking, who had been on the run for over two decades. Tamang, from Dupcheshwor rural municipality-4, was arrested on Friday in Satbise of Tadi rural municipality-4, based on a critical tip-off.
Tamang was convicted by the Makwanpur District Court on February 2, 1999, and sentenced to nine years, seven months, and ten days in prison for his involvement in trafficking a woman from Nepal to India. However, he had evaded capture since the court’s verdict, leading to a prolonged manhunt.
Chief Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Shantiraj Koirala, confirmed the arrest, noting that Tamang’s capture ended years of extensive search efforts. Following his arrest, Tamang has been transferred to prison to begin serving his long-overdue sentence.
