In Photos: Japan’s Foreign Minister Explores Historic Basantapur Durbar Square
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa made a brief yet culturally enriching visit to the historic Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu today, marking her first official trip to Nepal. Minister Kamikawa, who was invited by her Nepali counterpart Narayankaji Shrestha, is in the city for a one-day diplomatic engagement.
Upon her arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Minister Kamikawa received a warm welcome from Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal. She then proceeded to explore the architectural and artistic treasures of Basantapur Durbar Square, spending about 30 minutes amidst its ancient monuments and temples.
Minister Kamikawa’s visit includes key diplomatic engagements, featuring courtesy calls on President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. She is also set to hold comprehensive bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Shrestha, focusing on strengthening the multifaceted Nepal-Japan relations.
The Foreign Ministry noted that discussions would also encompass cooperation on international issues, underlining the significance of Minister Kamikawa’s visit in fostering deeper ties between the two countries.
This visit, the fourth by a Japanese Foreign Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, highlights the ongoing commitment to enhance partnership and mutual understanding between the two nations.
