Arresting GB Rai is Complicated: Home Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has acknowledged the legal complexities involved in arresting Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, who is currently a fugitive in a cooperative fraud case.
Minister Lamichhane emphasized that the government’s primary goal is to ensure the return of savings to the victims of the cooperative fraud.
In a media briefing following discussions with top leaders and the Speaker on Tuesday, Lamichhane revealed that political and diplomatic efforts are underway to extradite GB Rai back to Nepal.
“The situation escalated with the revelations about GB Rai. Why wasn’t it halted earlier?” Lamichhane questioned, highlighting the challenges in locating someone who has fled.
He further mentioned that the extradition treaty between the involved countries is complicating efforts to arrest Rai or facilitate his return to Nepal.
