International Drug Ring Busted: Three Women Arrested for Cocaine Smuggling in Kathmandu
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Nepal Police has apprehended three women, including two from Uganda and one from India, for their involvement in smuggling cocaine worth a staggering Rs 80 million.
The operation, spearheaded by the Bureau, unfolded with precision as the authorities intercepted the first Ugandan woman, aged 44, who arrived in Nepal on May 12. Discovered to be carrying 1.260 kg of cocaine concealed within her stomach, she was promptly apprehended in Sinamangal, Kathmandu. Subsequent examination at the Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj unveiled 90 capsules of cocaine inside her, marking a significant seizure.
Following this initial breakthrough, the second Ugandan woman fell under police scrutiny, leading to her detention in the bustling streets of Thamel. With 1.394 kg of cocaine seized from her possession, the authorities dealt a critical blow to the burgeoning drug trade.
The combined efforts of law enforcement culminated in the confiscation of 2.654 kg of cocaine, valuing a staggering Rs 79.6 million, from the two Ugandan nationals alone.
Amidst the unfolding investigation, the authorities also apprehended an Indian woman in Thamel, suspected to be the intended recipient of the smuggled cocaine.
“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to combatting the menace of drug trafficking,” remarked SP Rameshwor Karki, spokesperson for the Narcotics Control Bureau, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
As the investigation progresses, the three apprehended women remain in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
