Four Family Members Killed in Taplejung Landslide

Four members of the same family lost their lives in a landslide in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-2, Taplejung, on Thursday night. The landslide, triggered by continuous rainfall, fell from above the house, sweeping it away.

The victims have been identified as 70-year-old Ram Bahadur Samra Limbu, his 50-year-old wife Janmaya Limbu (youngest of three), and their 10-year-old twin daughters, Ganga and Jamuna Samra. They were the family of Rabin Samra (Bikash), the ward chair of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality.

According to Kamal Kumar Lungeli, Information Officer and Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Taplejung, the landslide originated 200 meters above the house. All four family members died instantly as the house was engulfed by the debris.

A police team led by Inspector Lungeli from the District Police Office, Taplejung, reached the site promptly after receiving information about the landslide. Additionally, officers from Singwa Police Station arrived on Friday morning to assist with the rescue operation.

Inspector Lungeli mentioned that it will take some time to fully assess the extent of the damage caused by the landslide. Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities work to manage the aftermath of this disaster.
