MCA Nepal Awards $51.6 Million Contract to Indian Firm for Ratmate Substation Construction
The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA Nepal) has awarded the contract for constructing a 400 kV substation in Ratmate, Nuwakot, to Techno Electric and Engineering Company of India. The contract, valued at $51.6 million, was signed and exchanged by Khadga Bahadur Bisht, Executive Director at MCA Nepal, and Rajiv Agarwal, Director-Commercial at Techno Electric and Engineering Company Ltd, during a ceremony in Kathmandu. The event was attended by officials from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and MCA Nepal.
The 400 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation is set to be completed within 39 months and will have a capacity of 1,000 Mega Volt Ampere, positioning it as one of Nepal’s largest substations. The Ratmate Substation will play a critical role in the interconnection of power transmission between the Lapsiphedi and New Hetauda Substations, enhancing the country’s power infrastructure.
This contract marks the second substation contract awarded by MCA Nepal under the MCC Nepal Compact. Previously, the contract for the New-Butwal Substation was awarded to Linxon India Pvt Ltd.
Nepal’s MCC Compact encompasses two major projects: the upgrade of an 80-kilometer section of the East-West Highway and the construction of a 315 km 400 kV transmission line, which includes three substations. These projects are supervised by the MCA Nepal Development Committee under the Ministry of Finance.
