Over 72,000 Nepalis Depart for Foreign Employment in a Single Month

A staggering 72,861 Nepalis embarked on foreign employment opportunities during the Nepali month of Jestha, marking a significant rise in outbound migration for work, according to the latest figures from the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE).

Among the total, 64,886 were men and 7,975 were women, underscoring a continuing trend where Nepali men dominate the workforce migration abroad. Dhanusha district emerged as the top sender, with 4,248 individuals leaving for various destinations during this period.

Of the total departures, 24,812 were individuals returning for subsequent job stints overseas, highlighting the cyclical nature of migration for economic purposes. Notably, 870 individuals secured employment through government programs, particularly in countries like Korea, facilitated under bilateral agreements.

The DoFE data further revealed that 11,172 individuals traveled abroad on personal visas, while a significant majority of 36,007 opted for recruitment agencies, locally known as manpower companies, for employment placements abroad.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the most sought-after destination, attracting 20,424 Nepalis during the month of Jestha alone, reaffirming its status as a primary hub for Nepali migrant workers seeking opportunities in the Gulf region.
