FAO and AFU Collaborate to Boost Nepal’s Agricultural Sector
In a ceremony attended by Prime Minister and AFU Chancellor Pushpa Kamal Dahal, FAO Representative Ken Shimizu and AFU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Punya Prasad Regmi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) solidifying their commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in the region.
The collaboration focuses on leveraging the collective expertise, knowledge networks, and resources of both organizations to uplift farmers and rural communities. Central to their mission is addressing climate change impacts on agriculture and fostering a transformation in agrifood systems to bolster food security and nutrition across Nepal.
A press statement issued by FAO-Nepal outlined the strategic objectives of the partnership, emphasizing joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, and capacity building within the agriculture sector. By pooling resources and sharing technological insights, FAO and AFU seek to implement impactful agricultural projects that promote sustainable practices and improve livelihoods.
Key facets of the MoU include provisions for collaborative project design and implementation, aiming to merge specialized skills for maximum agricultural impact. Moreover, the partnership aims to bolster academic and research capabilities through the exchange of data, research findings, and best practices.
