Dr Mahat expresses rue for budget allocation for small projects
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker and former finance minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has expressed his displeasure with the budget allocation made for the small projects in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.
At a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday, Dr Mahat argued that the government has allocated the budget at the behest of power but the highly essential projects have not been prioritized in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.
He stated that the decision on budget allocation was made without determining the priority.
The government’s norm not to allocate the federal budget to projects of less than Rs 30 million was not implemented in practice.
Dr Mahat was of the view that the province and local governments should implement small-sized projects.
He further argued that budget allocation in the name of the users’ group would result in corruption and only party cadres would benefit.
