Nepal Hosts Successful IDA-21 Meeting: A Step Towards Global Development

Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun concluded the third replenishment meeting of the International Development Association (IDA-21) with resounding success, marking a milestone in global efforts to eradicate poverty and foster sustainable development.

Over four days at Hotel Soaltee, Kathmandu, from June 18, Minister Pun presided over discussions attended by international development partners, donors, and managers. The meeting, inaugurated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, underscored Nepal’s pivotal role in hosting this crucial gathering dedicated to tackling global development challenges.

In his closing remarks, Minister Pun emphasized the significance of IDA-21, acknowledging it as a vital platform for IDA countries striving to uplift their economies and improve living conditions. He expressed gratitude to the World Bank and stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to continuing the fight against poverty worldwide.

“The decisions taken during IDA-21 will undoubtedly bring joy to IDA countries and those receiving crucial development finance,” Minister Pun stated. “We are determined to ensure that these decisions effectively uplift economies and alleviate poverty, making our nations more sustainable and livable.”

Highlighting the multifaceted challenges faced by IDA countries, including poverty, inequality, and climate vulnerabilities, Minister Pun stressed the urgent need for sustained international support and investment. “Access to electricity, quality healthcare, education, and nutritious food are fundamental rights that IDA countries must secure,” he remarked, calling for collective efforts to address climate change, gender inequality, and poverty alleviation.

The successful conclusion of IDA-21 in Kathmandu reaffirms Nepal’s commitment to global development and its pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for vulnerable nations worldwide.
