No Consensus on BRI Implementation, Chinese Vice Minister Returns Home
26th Jun 2024
Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong has returned to China after completing a visit to Nepal. During his visit, efforts to finalize an implementation plan document for advancing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) were unsuccessful.
Weidong, who arrived in Nepal on Monday, held a meeting with Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha before departing. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and focused on the BRI implementation plan document. However, no agreement was reached.
Sources indicate that further discussions are needed to address unresolved issues before the document can be finalized.
Nepal signed onto the BRI on May 12, 2017, but no projects have been initiated under the initiative to date.
