Avoid BRI Loans, Says Nepali Congress MP
Nepali Congress MP Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya has stated that the Nepali government should not take loans for projects under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
During the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Friday, Chaurasiya emphasized the need for the government to avoid loans for BRI projects, citing alarming national debt levels.
Chaurasiya highlighted ongoing financial burdens, citing projects like Pokhara Airport and Bhairahawa Airport, which have amassed substantial debts.
“Now Nepal should not take loans again. Projects like Pokhara Airport, Bhairahawa Airport, and others, funded heavily by loans, have placed the country in a precarious position, unable to manage repayment itself,” he remarked.
Nepali Congress MPs also discussed this issue in Thursday’s meeting, advocating for prioritizing grants over loans.”
