Nepse Index Surges Above 2,200 Points, Highest in Nearly a Year

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index experienced a notable surge on Thursday, gaining 29.21 points to close at 2,211.34, marking its highest level in nearly a year. The index last crossed the 2,200-point threshold on July 24 of the previous year.

The day’s rally began right after trading opened and sustained its momentum, resulting in a 1.34% increase by the session’s end. The daily turnover also saw a significant rise, surpassing Rs 7 billion for the first time since January 21, with total transactions amounting to Rs 7.08 billion.

A total of 155 companies witnessed an increase in their share prices, while 78 companies saw declines, and 11 remained unchanged. CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd led the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 152.58 million traded. Following closely were Global IME Bank Promoter Shares and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 148.89 million and Rs 127.97 million, respectively.

Most trading groups posted gains, except for the Microfinance and Trading sectors. The Life-Insurance sub-index recorded the highest gain, rising by 3.06%. The Banking and Mutual Fund sub-indices followed, increasing by 2.42% and 1.9%, respectively.

Overall, Thursday’s trading session highlighted a strong performance in the Nepse, driven by significant activity across various sectors and a substantial increase in turnover.
