Khotang Produces 168 Metric Tonnes of Litchi
Khotang district has seen a significant increase in litchi production this year, yielding 168 metric tonnes compared to last year’s 153 metric tonnes, as confirmed by the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre. Local farmers have earned millions of rupees by cultivating litchi.
The farmers in Khotang have grown litchi commercially on 31 hectares of land. Among the 10 local levels in Khotang, Rawabensi Rural Municipality produced the highest amount, with 74 metric tonnes of litchi this year.
Sanjay Kumar Pandit, an officer at the Centre, reported that Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi produced two metric tonnes, while Halesi Tuwachung produced 20.5 metric tonnes. Jantedhunga Rural Municipality and Diprung Chuichumma also saw substantial litchi production this year.
Litchis grown in Khotang are sold in local Haat bazaars and other cities, including Kathmandu. In light of the good production, local governments in the district have provided litchi saplings for free to promote further cultivation and attract more farmers to litchi farming.
