UML Issues Whip for MPs to Support Prime Minister Oli in Vote of Confidence
The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has issued a directive, or “whip,” to its Members of Parliament (MPs) to ensure their support for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the upcoming vote of confidence.
Mahesh Bertaula, the chief whip of the UML parliamentary party, sent an SMS to all party MPs today, instructing them to attend the House of Representatives meeting tomorrow and vote in favor of the Prime Minister.
“In the meeting of the House of Representatives, as the Honorable Prime Minister will submit a motion for a vote of confidence, I would like to inform you that a whip has been issued to make it compulsory to attend and vote in favor of the motion seeking a vote of confidence,” the message read.
Prime Minister Oli is seeking the vote of confidence in accordance with Article 76 (4) of the Constitution. This constitutional provision mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more parties must secure a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives within 30 days of their appointment.
