PM KP Sharma Oli Urges Prioritization of Ship and Rail Operations for Transformation
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for prioritizing the operation of ship and rail services, asserting that these initiatives could bring significant transformation to the country. Addressing the concluding session of the review seminar of the Department of Road for the last fiscal year, PM Oli directed officials to develop a comprehensive plan for running ships from the Indian border at Hanumannagar to Triveni and Devghat.
“It is concerning that ship operations have not commenced despite having laws in place since 2027 BS. Water transport is imperative for fast and convenient movement of goods and people,” he stated. PM Oli proposed the construction of a port at Hanumannagar and the opening of a customs office to facilitate various operations.
Highlighting the importance of railway transport, PM Oli encouraged the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, and the ministry secretary to consider expanding the current railway service up to Bardibas and prioritize the construction of an east-west railway line. “If constructing an underground railway in Kathmandu is impractical, we should consider a sky rail,” he suggested.
The Prime Minister outlined the potential benefits of the east-west railway, noting that it would enable travel from Delhi to Guwahati and from Siliguri to Haridwar, enhancing connectivity with India.
PM Oli also urged the completion of national pride projects on time and with high quality, addressing the need to meet public demands. He mentioned that the Ramechhap-Nuwakot section of the Mid-Hill Highway could be modified based on public requests.
While acknowledging that the government may overlook human errors, PM Oli underscored that corruption is unacceptable and must be addressed promptly.
The Prime Minister’s directives aim to bolster Nepal’s infrastructure, improve transportation networks, and drive economic growth through enhanced connectivity and efficient movement of goods and people.
