Trilateral Trade Route Resumes Operations at Phulbari-Banglabandh Checkpoint

The Phulbari-Banglabandh checkpoint, a crucial trilateral trade route connecting Nepal, India, and Bhutan, has resumed its operations as usual. This resumption has notably improved the flow of imports from Bangladesh into Nepal, marking a significant development in the region’s trade dynamics.

According to Subas Pandey, the Chief of the Nepal Transit and Warehousing Company Limited Office in Kakarvitta, containers that had been stationed at Kakarvitta have now begun their journey towards Bangladesh, while consignments at the Bangladesh border have started moving towards Nepal.

Pandey highlighted that the recent formation of an interim government in Bangladesh has played a key role in easing import and export activities since August 7, facilitating smoother trade relations between the two countries.

In the fiscal year 2023/24, Nepal exported goods worth Rs 463.18 million to Bangladesh, while imports from Bangladesh to Nepal totaled Rs 3.83 billion, according to data provided by the Kakarvitta office.

The reopening of this checkpoint is expected to further boost trade activities in the region, strengthening economic ties among the neighboring countries.
