Kamala Bridge Construction Struggle Committee Submits Memorandum to Madhes Chief Minister

The Kamala Bridge Construction Struggle Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Satish Kumar Singh, urging him to take immediate action for the construction of a bridge over the Kamala River at the Dhanusa-Siraha border. The committee emphasized that the bridge is crucial for the smooth operation of the Postal Highway, which directly benefits the people living in the southern belt of the Tarai districts.

The struggle committee, which includes engineers from Siraha, highlighted the difficulties faced by locals due to the absence of a bridge over the Kamala River. They pointed out that the lack of infrastructure becomes especially problematic during the rainy season, when the river swells and disrupts transportation and daily life.

Prabin Kumar Yadav, an engineer at Siraha Municipality and the coordinator of the struggle committee, stated that the memorandum presented to CM Singh focused solely on the demand for the bridge’s construction. The committee has given the Chief Minister a one-week ultimatum to address their concerns. “If the demand goes unheard, the struggle committee will launch stringent protest programs,” warned Yadav.

Prior to submitting the memorandum, the committee organized a massive rally that saw participation from political leaders, intellectuals, youths, and other stakeholders. The rally highlighted the frustration of the local population, who questioned the relevance of the provincial government if they still have to rely on the central government for such essential infrastructure projects, even after nine years of federalism in practice.

The struggle committee’s efforts reflect the growing impatience and determination of the local community to secure the necessary infrastructure that will improve their quality of life and ensure better connectivity in the region.
