Nepal Police Arrest Two Foreign Nationals with 1.4 Kilograms of Cocaine
Nepal Police have apprehended two foreign nationals in possession of 1.4 kilograms of cocaine, according to a statement released today by the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The suspects, Zuma Abdulla Maji, a Tanzanian national, and K Juchobeni Tasopoi, an Indian citizen, were arrested on charges of involvement in narcotics trafficking. The police made the arrests public during a press briefing earlier today.
A team from the Bureau confiscated 80 capsules of cocaine concealed inside a bag belonging to Zuma, who was staying at a hotel in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10. The Indian national, Tasopoi, was arrested at the scene while allegedly purchasing the cocaine from Zuma, according to Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, the Spokesman at the Police Headquarters.
The Bureau estimates the black market value of the confiscated cocaine at approximately Rs 38.7 million.
The two suspects are currently being held in custody as the investigation continues, with permission for extended remand granted by the District Court Kathmandu. The police are intensifying efforts to uncover the broader network involved in the trafficking of the narcotics.
