Monsoon Winds Bring Rain Across Nepal, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Issues Alert

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that the monsoon wind is currently affecting weather conditions across Nepal. The low-pressure line of the monsoon remains around its average position, leading to varying rainfall patterns throughout the country.

Current Weather Conditions

At present, light rain is being observed in some areas of Bagmati and Sudurpaschim provinces. The Department has forecasted generally cloudy skies across the country this afternoon, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning likely to occur in several locations across all provinces.

As for tonight, the cloudy conditions are expected to persist nationwide. The Department has warned that heavy rainfall could occur in a few areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations within each province over the next 24 hours, with a particular emphasis on potential heavy rainfall in the aforementioned regions.

Impact and Warnings

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to remain vigilant, as the ongoing monsoon conditions may partially impact various sectors, including agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and both road and air transportation. Daily life in affected areas may also experience disruptions.

Recent Rainfall Activity

Moderate to heavy rainfall has already been recorded in several regions over the past six hours. Specifically, areas in and around Morang and Dhankuta of Koshi province, as well as Lamjung in Gandaki province, have seen significant rainfall. Other affected areas include Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, and other parts of Koshi province; Saptari and adjacent areas of Madhes province; Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, and Nuwakot in Bagmati province; and Gorkha and Kaski in Gandaki province. Parts of Lumbini and Karnali provinces have also experienced rainfall during this period.

Residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to landslides, floods, and other weather-related hazards, as the monsoon continues to exert its influence across the country.
