Biratnagar Metropolitan City Establishes Biratnagar Academy to Promote Arts and Culture
The Biratnagar Metropolitan City has officially established the Biratnagar Academy, an initiative focused on the advancement of language, literature, culture, and arts. The decision was made during a meeting of the Municipal Executive on Thursday, chaired by Mayor Nagesh Koirala.
Senior litterateur Bibash Pokharel has been appointed as the Chairman of the Academy. Sarala Chapagain will serve as the Vice-Chair, while Dinesh Raj Subedi has been named the Member-Secretary.
The Academy’s members include notable figures from various artistic and cultural sectors:
- Maya Poudel, representing the music sector
- Ganga Subedi, from fine arts
- Prabhusan Dhungel, specializing in language
- Madhu Pokharel, focusing on literature
- Bhairab Chhetri, overseeing drama
- Shiva Narayan Pandit, dedicated to the mother language
The formation of the Academy follows the passage of the Biratnagar Academy Act earlier in January, marking a significant step in promoting and preserving Biratnagar’s rich cultural heritage.
