UK Ambassador Rob Fenn Meets CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Prachanda, Discusses Transitional Justice and Bilateral Cooperation

Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, Rob Fenn, met with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today at Dahal’s residence in Khumaltar, Lalitpur. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed key issues, including Nepal’s transitional justice process and the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Chair Dahal informed Ambassador Fenn that the House of Representatives has recently passed a bill related to transitional justice, which emphasizes a victim-friendly approach. He expressed confidence that the UK government would provide necessary support to ensure justice and respect for survivors.

Dahal, who had initiated the Transitional Justice (TJ) bill during his tenure as Prime Minister, noted that its enactment into law would not only benefit Nepal but also contribute to global peace efforts. He highlighted his previous efforts to strengthen international relations and Nepal’s leadership role in climate justice during his premiership.

On the occasion, Chair Dahal also raised concerns about the ongoing issues faced by Ex-British Gurkha soldiers, expressing hope that the British government would address these matters.

Ambassador Fenn commended Nepal for advancing the peace process and bringing the transitional justice bill closer to fruition. He assured Dahal that the UK government would fully support the conclusion of this process.

The Ambassador also emphasized the potential for enhanced trade and cooperation between the two countries, noting the interest of British nationals in Nepali products. He expressed optimism about partnering with Nepal to foster mutual cooperation and trade.

Ambassador Fenn also praised Nepal’s efforts to amend laws to create an investment-friendly environment and the successful conclusion of an investment summit during Dahal’s term as Prime Minister. He pledged to contribute to attracting more foreign investment to Nepal.
