PM KP Sharma Oli Stresses Profitability and Industrialization in State-Run Enterprises
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized that state-run industries and corporations must not operate at a loss. Speaking at a briefing on Wednesday with employees of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, PM Oli urged officials to focus on industrialization, noting that necessary infrastructure, such as roads and electricity, is already in place.
He highlighted the potential for job creation through the modernization of agriculture and the establishment of start-up industries, stating that increased production could help reduce imports. “Do not force industries to operate if they do not generate profit or yield results,” he cautioned.
PM Oli also urged prioritizing industries that generate employment and contribute to a civilized and healthy society, rather than those linked to alcohol and tobacco. He directed authorities to support and protect industries engaged in beneficial activities.
The Prime Minister also called for continued exploration and extraction of minerals and petroleum products, encouraging the development of industries based on these resources.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Industry Damodar Bhandari, Chief Secretary Lila Devi Gadtaula, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Raj Kumar Shrestha, and Ministry Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, among others.
