India Sends Minister to Nepal Following Tanahun Bus Accident Tragedy
In response to the tragic bus accident in Tanahun, Nepal, which claimed 27 lives, the Government of India is sending Union Minister of State for Youth and Sports, Raksha Khadse, to coordinate the recovery efforts. Minister Khadse is expected to arrive in Kathmandu at 10:30 AM on Saturday.
The accident occurred on Friday morning around 11:20 AM when an Indian passenger bus (No. UP 53 FT 7623) traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu plunged 150 meters off the Prithvi Highway into the Marsyangdi River. The crash resulted in 27 deaths and left 16 others injured.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Ukraine, immediately directed that a Union Minister be dispatched to Nepal for coordination. Given that Minister Khadse represents Maharashtra, the home state of many victims, she was chosen for the task. An MLA from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district is also accompanying her.
The 16 injured Indian passengers are receiving treatment at a teaching hospital in Maharajganj, under the supervision of embassy doctors. Special arrangements have been made by the hospital administration to ensure their care. Additionally, three passengers with minor injuries are being housed at Gorkha Niwas Guest House in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
This swift response highlights the deep concern and support from the Indian government for the victims of this tragic incident.
