CPN (Maoist Centre) Not Opposed to Constitution Amendment but Warns Against Eroding Citizen Rights: Prachanda

Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that the party is not against amending the constitution. Speaking to the media at Biratnagar airport today, Prachanda clarified, “However, any attempts to diminish citizens’ rights or undermine the achievements made in the name of constitutional amendments will not be tolerated by the CPN (Maoist Centre).”

He emphasized that the party would reject any efforts to remove provisions for proportional representation and inclusion, which are crucial for uplifting suppressed, marginalized, and disadvantaged communities. Prachanda highlighted that the Maoist ‘people’s war’ was instrumental in establishing the rights of Madhesis, Dalits, Muslims, indigenous groups, and other nationalities.

The former Prime Minister also asserted that the party had to step down from power due to its efforts to take action against corruption and middlemen. “Now, the party has an opportunity to expand its organization, strengthen, and rebuild itself,” he added.

As the leader of the major opposition, Prachanda warned the government against acting contrary to the interests of the nation and its citizens.
