PM KP Sharma Oli Calls for Doubling Agricultural Production and Embracing Modern Farming
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called for a significant increase in agricultural production and the adoption of modern, productive farming practices. Speaking at the 13th annual general assembly of the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) from his official residence in Baluwatar, PM Oli emphasized the need to rise above subsistence farming.
As Chancellor of AFU, PM Oli highlighted the importance of studying crop suitability and expanding market access for agricultural products. He urged collaboration among the government, cooperatives, and the private sector to achieve these goals.
With agriculture engaging around 66% of Nepal’s population and contributing one-third of the nation’s GDP, PM Oli stressed the necessity of producing skilled agriculture professionals to meet the sector’s growing demands. He pointed out that modern systems and mass production are key to finding market opportunities and reducing trade deficits.
Additionally, PM Oli announced government plans to utilize vacant forest land for fruit cultivation, aiming to boost national food self-reliance and contribute more effectively to the economy.
