DPM Prakash Man Singh Pays Tribute to Ganesh Man Singh on 27th Memorial Day
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, paid tribute to the late Ganesh Man Singh, Supreme Commander of Nepal’s 1990 people’s movement, by garlanding his statue at Shova Bhagwati, Kathmandu, today. The ceremony marked the 27th Memorial Day of the influential democratic leader.
DPM Singh, laying a wreath at the statue of his father, recalled the significant contributions of Ganesh Man Singh to Nepal’s democratic movements, emphasizing his steadfast dedication to empowering citizens. Speaking to the media after the tribute, he remarked, “Late Singh spent more than 15 years in prison to fight for the rights of the people. He did not compromise when it came to the people’s sovereignty.”
Ganesh Man Singh, one of the founding Presidents of the Nepali Congress (NC), played a key role in establishing democracy and restoring it after the King’s coup. The DPM noted that his father earned his reputation as a “people’s leader” because of his unwavering commitment to making citizens sovereign.
NC Kathmandu chapter President Sabuj Baniya, NC Lalitpur chapter President Jitendra Shrestha, along with prominent party leaders and supporters, attended the ceremony to honor Ganesh Man Singh’s legacy.
Born in Kartik 24, 1972 BS, in Chhetrapati, Kathmandu, Ganesh Man Singh passed away on Asoj 2, 2054 BS, at the age of 82. He is remembered for his selfless political character, notably when he declined the King’s offer to head the government after the success of the people’s movement, nominating his colleague Krishna Prasad Bhattarai as Prime Minister instead.
