Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel Inquires into Fluctuations in Share Market
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel visited the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) office in Bhadrakali on Wednesday to address concerns over the fluctuating stock market.
During his visit, Paudel questioned the instability in the market, noting the significant drop in activity. “A while ago, NEPSE reached over 3,000 points, with average transactions of Rs 30 billion, but now the index is at 2,570, with transactions limited to Rs 5 to 6 billion. Why is it witnessing such fluctuation?” he asked.
He pointed out that despite the political stability, the share market has experienced a bearish trend. “We have a robust and stable government, and bank interest rates have declined, yet the market remains unstable. I want an explanation,” he emphasized.
The Finance Minister urged the NEPSE and other relevant bodies to ensure that the capital market remains sustainable, credible, and technology-friendly. He also stressed the importance of vigilance to prevent insider trading and other unwanted activities within the stock market.
Senior ministry officials accompanied Paudel during his inspection visit to NEPSE.
