Student Stabbed Near Japanese School in South China, Attacker Arrested

A 10-year-old student from a Japanese school in Shenzhen, southern China, was stabbed on Wednesday, marking the second recent attack involving Japanese educational facilities in the country, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.

The assault took place about 200 meters from the school’s gate. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed that the child was immediately taken to a hospital, and the assailant was arrested at the scene. Local police identified the suspect as a 44-year-old man surnamed Zhong. However, the motive for the attack has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Neither the student’s nationality nor any further details about their condition were provided. Lin emphasized that China will continue taking steps to ensure the safety of all foreigners residing in the country.

This stabbing incident follows a similar attack in June, when a man targeted a bus belonging to a Japanese school in Suzhou. During that attack, a Chinese national lost their life while attempting to protect a Japanese mother and her child.

The stabbing occurred on the 93rd anniversary of the Mukden Incident, a historical event orchestrated by the Japanese military that precipitated Japan’s invasion of China, a war that led to millions of Chinese casualties and widespread displacement.
