Government Forms High-Level Economic Reform Commission

The government has established a High-Level Economic Sector Reform Recommendation Commission, following a decision made during the Council of Ministers’ meeting on Monday. The five-member Commission is headed by former Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal and was created based on a proposal from the Finance Ministry.

Members of the Commission include Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, from the National Planning Commission; Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Gyawali, Head of the Central Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University; economist Dr. Biswas Gauchan; and Dr. Kalpana Khanal, senior researcher at the Policy Research Institute.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel expressed confidence that the Commission will offer valuable recommendations to the government after thorough discussions with various stakeholders.

The formation of the Commission is part of the Finance Ministry’s 100-day work plan, with the Ministry also responsible for preparing the Commission’s work procedures.
