Nepal, India Army Chiefs Hold Bilateral Talks in Kathmandu
Chief of Army Staff of Nepal, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, and Indian Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, engaged in bilateral talks today at the Nepali Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu. The discussions centered on enhancing mutual partnerships and addressing shared military interests, according to Nepali Army spokesperson Gaurav Kumar KC.
The meeting also included a presentation on the roles, responsibilities, and performance of the Nepali Army. Earlier, General Dwivedi reviewed a guard of honor presented by the Nepali Army and planted a tree within the Jangi Adda (Headquarters complex). He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the Memorial to the Brave Soldier at Tundikhel.
As part of a longstanding tradition since 1950, Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel is set to confer upon General Dwivedi the honorary rank of ‘Maharathi’ (Honorary General) of the Nepali Army later today.
This marks General Dwivedi’s first official visit to Nepal since assuming his position as Chief of the Indian Army on June 30. Tomorrow, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Defence Minister Manbir Rai for further discussions on strengthening bilateral defense ties.
