President Approves Army Deployment for Upcoming By-Elections
President Ramchandra Paudel has approved the deployment of the Nepali Army for security purposes during the upcoming by-elections scheduled for December 1.
The elections will fill 42 vacant seats across various local levels nationwide. President Paudel granted approval under Article 66(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, as confirmed by Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, Spokesperson for the President’s Office.
The decision follows a recommendation from the Council of Ministers, which on November 21 resolved to deploy army personnel to ensure a safe, peaceful, and fair electoral process.
The Cabinet’s recommendation, now formalized by the President’s endorsement, underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining order and security during the elections. This step is part of broader efforts to uphold the integrity and smooth functioning of the democratic process.
