PM KP Sharma Oli Highlights Commitment to Social Security on 7th Social Security Day
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing social security, emphasizing its role in ensuring social justice and dignity for all citizens. In a message issued today to mark the 7th Social Security Day, PM Oli highlighted efforts to implement the social security scheme in a more systematic and inclusive manner.
“The government is working actively so that no citizen feels unprotected or abandoned. For the welfare of the people, the State and the government are always present,” he stated.
The Prime Minister underscored that social security is enshrined as a fundamental right in the Constitution. “Under the broader concept of social security, the government is drafting action plans, programs, and budgets, ensuring their proper implementation,” he added.
Reflecting on the historical development of social security in Nepal, PM Oli recalled that the initiative began under a government led by the CPN-UML in 2051 BS, which introduced monthly allowances for senior citizens, single women, and the helpless. He noted that this early step laid the foundation for materializing a welfare state rooted in social justice and equality.
In his address, PM Oli described social security as a cornerstone of social life and governance, while stressing the importance of contribution-based social security schemes that recognize individuals’ roles in building a secure society.
The government’s commitment to this vision reflects its determination to ensure that no one is left behind, as Nepal progresses toward prosperity, he concluded.
