Bala Chaturdashi Observed Nationwide to Honor Departed Souls

The Bala Chaturdashi festival, a significant Hindu tradition dedicated to the remembrance of departed loved ones, was observed across Nepal today. Devotees gathered at Shiva temples, including the revered Pashupatinath Temple, to commemorate the occasion with prayers and rituals.

The observance began last night, on the 13th day of the waning moon in the month of Mangsir, with devotees lighting lamps in memory of departed family members and maintaining an all-night vigil. Early this morning, they sowed Satbeej—seven types of grains—along the premises of temples as a symbolic act of reverence and blessings for the departed.

The Pashupatinath Temple witnessed a massive influx of devotees, as reported by temple authorities. Those unable to visit the iconic temple marked the festival at nearby Shiva temples within their localities, ensuring widespread participation in this solemn tradition.

Bala Chaturdashi holds deep spiritual significance, with devotees believing that the rituals performed during this festival bring peace to the departed souls and blessings to the living.
