Vice President Yadav Highlights Social Unity on Bibaha Panchami Festival

Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav has expressed confidence that the Bibaha Panchami festival will foster social and national unity while enriching Nepal’s cultural heritage.

In a message marking the festival, Vice President Yadav extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health to all Nepali citizens at home and abroad. He emphasized that the event serves as a reminder to embrace moral values in family and society, drawing inspiration from the virtuous lives of Shree Ramchandra and Sita.

The Bibaha Panchami festival, commemorating the legendary wedding of Ram and Sita during the Tretayug, is celebrated across Nepal with religious and cultural fervor, particularly in Janakpur, the historic capital of the ancient Mithila kingdom.

Thousands of devotees gathered at the Janaki Temple early in the morning to offer prayers and participate in the vibrant festivities. The event is marked by reenactments of Ram and Sita’s wedding, accompanied by processions of their idols, folk music, traditional dances, and rituals such as Matkor, Tilakotsav, and Swayamvar, reflecting the rich Mithila culture.

The festival recalls the ancient tale of King Janak’s challenge to suitors: lifting and stringing the great bow of Lord Shiva to win Sita’s hand in marriage. While many failed, Ram, the prince of Ayodhya, effortlessly lifted and broke the bow, securing his marriage to Sita.

Vice President Yadav underscored the importance of Bibaha Panchami in promoting social virtues, cultural preservation, and moral values. He noted that the folk traditions and celebrations associated with the festival help revitalize Nepal’s unique heritage.

“This festival is an opportunity to encourage social harmony and moral virtues, inspired by the exemplary lives of Ram and Sita,” Yadav remarked, adding that it reinforces familial and social bonds.

The festival continues to be a vibrant symbol of Nepal’s cultural richness and religious diversity.
