Prachanda and US Diplomat Donald Lu Discuss Strengthening Nepal-US Relations

Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, met with Donald Lu, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, on Sunday. The meeting, held at Dahal’s residence in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, focused on bolstering Nepal-US ties and other matters of mutual interest, according to Dahal’s Secretariat.

Chairperson Dahal highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nepal and the United States and expressed optimism that such high-level engagements would further strengthen bilateral cooperation. He also apprised Lu of Nepal’s nearing conclusion of its peace process, which has been pursued through a unique, consensus-driven approach. Dahal extended gratitude to the international community, including the US, for their continued goodwill and support during this process.

In response, Donald Lu expressed satisfaction with Nepal’s progress, describing it as encouraging news for the global community. He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nepal’s economic development, emphasizing that the US government and the American people are steadfast partners in Nepal’s developmental journey.

Assistant Secretary Lu’s visit to Nepal is part of a broader tour of South Asian countries. His discussions with Dahal underscored the United States’ ongoing efforts to foster strong ties with Nepal and support its peace and development initiatives.
