Nepali Peacekeepers in Syria Confirmed Safe Amid Rebel Takeover
The Nepali Army has confirmed the safety of all its troops deployed in Syria under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) mission, following reports of heightened conflict in the region.
In a press release issued today, the Nepali Army stated that the peacekeepers stationed at various posts, including the 10-A security post in Hadar, are unharmed and their condition remains stable.
The announcement comes in the wake of an armed takeover by the Islamist rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which seized control of key areas in Syria, including forcibly entering the 10-A post on December 7. Despite the incursion, the Nepali contingent maintained its safety and operational readiness.
“The condition of Nepali peacekeepers in various locations under the United Nations Mission in Syria is normal,” the release assured.
Nepal has a long-standing history of contributing troops to UN peacekeeping missions globally, with their safety remaining a top priority for the Nepali Army and the United Nations. The Army’s statement has provided reassurance to families and the public amidst rising tensions in Syria.
