Nepal Army Chief Receives Honorary General Insignia from Indian President

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashok Raj Sigdel has been conferred the insignia of Honorary General of the Indian Army by Indian President Droupadi Murmu. The special ceremony took place on Thursday at Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi during CoAS Sigdel’s official visit to India.

The Nepal Army Public Relations and Information Directorate highlighted the deep-rooted cultural, religious, and historical ties between Nepal and India that underpin the tradition. Since 1950, the two countries have mutually conferred the title of Honorary General on each other’s Army Chiefs to symbolize their cordial military relations.

Last month, on November 21, Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel had conferred the insignia of Honorary General of the Nepali Army on Indian CoAS General Upendra Dwivedi during a ceremony in Kathmandu.

On the same day, CoAS Sigdel held a courtesy meeting with India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and planted trees in the premises of the Indian Army Headquarters, further emphasizing the friendly ties between the two armies.

This ceremonial exchange signifies the long-standing and strong bond of cooperation between Nepal and India, reflecting their commitment to maintaining regional peace and security.
