Snowfall Disrupts Normal Life in Humla

Snowfall has blanketed the Humla district, disrupting daily life and movement, particularly in higher-altitude regions.

According to Chief District Officer Narayan Pandey, snowfall began Monday night after a clear weather day. Simkot, the district headquarters, recorded up to two inches of snow, while northern areas such as Namkha Rural Municipality saw accumulations as deep as one foot.

The sudden drop in temperature has caused significant challenges for residents. Villages including Limi, Yari, Halji, Til, and Hilsa Chala in Namkha Rural Municipality are among the most affected, with normal life and movement in these areas severely impacted.

In Simkot, temperatures have dropped below freezing, with rainfall reported in southern parts of the district.

CDO Pandey urged residents, especially the elderly and children, to take precautions against the cold and stay alert to the possibility of avalanches in vulnerable areas.

The snowfall underscores the harsh winter conditions in Humla, which often challenge infrastructure and access in the remote district.
