Taskforce to Amend Constitution Soon: Home Minister Lekhak

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak announced that a taskforce will be formed soon to initiate amendments to Nepal’s constitution, with necessary groundwork already underway.

Speaking at the ninth national conference of the Nepal National Dalit Welfare Organisation, Minister Lekhak emphasized that the amendment process will be based on consensus among all political parties. He revealed that the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) are set to form separate taskforces in the coming days to identify key issues and prepare for the amendment.

“Initially, we will identify the issues for amendment through discussions, followed by phase-wise talks with all political parties. The constitution will be amended by reaching a consensus on the content. This will take some time,” said Lekhak.

The Home Minister clarified that the amendments aim to strengthen the constitution and enhance inclusiveness, not to undermine it. The government’s focus remains on ensuring the constitution addresses evolving national needs while upholding its core principles.
