Nepali Foreign Minister Seeks Iran’s Help for Bipin Joshi’s Release

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba met with her Iranian counterpart, Sayyid Abbas Araghchi, in Muscat, Oman, on Monday. The two ministers, both attending the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, discussed bilateral relations and mutual interests.

During the meeting, Dr. Deuba urged Iran to use its diplomatic influence to secure the release of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who has been held captive by Hamas since October 2023. She had previously raised this request in a phone conversation with Minister Araghchi.

In response, the Iranian Foreign Minister assured that he would prioritize the issue and press Hamas officials for Joshi’s release, pledging to take all possible steps to secure his freedom.

The Government of Nepal has been engaged in continuous diplomatic efforts for Joshi’s release. Just a day earlier, Minister Deuba had also sought assistance from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Additionally, Nepal has been pursuing the case through the United Nations and other international and regional platforms.
