India importing electricity from two more projects in Nepal just after new govt formed under Prachanda

After the new government is formed in Nepal under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre, India is going to purchase electricity from two more hydroelectricity projects.

According to the agreement with Central Electricity Authority of India, the electricity of two more projects in the private sector will be exported to India.

According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising, only today the permission was received for exporting the electricity. The electricity of those projects will also be sold through competition in the day-ahead market of Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX).

According to the latest information, the electricity of Kabeli B1 and Lower Modi hydropower project will be exported to India. However, the electricity of that project will be exported to India only from next May.

Kabeli B1 has a capacity of 24.25 MW and Lower Modi has a capacity of 19.4 MW. Now, even from these projects, a total of 452.6 megawatts of electricity will be exported to India.

The Authority has exported electricity worth Rs. 11.16 billion to India till this 18 December.
