Speaker and Deputy Speaker elected unopposed in Lumbini province

Tularam Gharti Magar of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected the Speaker of Lumbini Province Assembly unopposed.

According to the election schedule, Gharti was the only candidate to register candidacy for the post on Monday. His candidacy was proposed by CPN-UML’s province assembly member Bhumiswor Dhakal and seconded by RPP’s Ashish Kumar Chaudhary.

At today’s province assembly meeting, the senior-most member of the province assembly had announced unopposed election of Gharti to the post.

Likewise, RPP candidate Menuka Khand was unanimously elected to the post of Deputy Speaker of Lumbini province.
Newly-elected Gharti pledged to carry forward the business of the province assembly in consultation and collaboration with all parties.

He said focus would be laid on framing necessary laws in the province forging consensus among the stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of the Lumbini Province Leela Giri is scheduled to gain vote of confidence in the province assembly on January 19.
