Pokhara plane crash : 6 bodies unidentified, DNA test begins

The bodies of six people who died in the recent Pokhara air crash has not been identified yet. DNA tests have started to identify the bodies.

The identification of the bodies has started in the DNA laboratory of Nepal Police.

Dr Gopal Kumar Chaudhary, the head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital said that the bodies were badly burnt in the accident and can only be identified through the DNA analysis.

DNA samples of the family had been collected and the DNA of the bones and teeth of the six bodies had been extracted and sent to the laboratory.  It is said that it will take at least two weeks to identify the bodies through this method.

Out of the 48 bodies brought to Kathmandu, 42 bodies were identified through forensics and fingerprints.

The ATR 72 aircraft of Yeti Airlines with 72 people including four crew members onboard crashed into the Seti gorge in Pokhara on January 15, killing all of them. The plane was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara.
