A Chapter of Political Revolution Closed with Significant Progress on Peace Process: Leader Dahal
Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has declared that the significant progress made in concluding the peace process marks the end of a pivotal chapter in Nepal’s political revolution.
Speaking during the deliberations on the Bill to amend the Investigation on the Enforced Disappeared Persons and Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act (third amendment) – 2079 BS, Dahal emphasized that the nearing conclusion of the peace process opens up new opportunities for institutionalizing achievements and advancing towards prosperity.
He described the political consensus on finalizing the Bill as a profound act of justice to history and a tribute to the dreams of martyrs. Dahal acknowledged the contributions of many in advancing the peace process and called for collective efforts to ensure the successful implementation of these achievements.
Reflecting on past challenges, Dahal noted that while national consensus was demonstrated during the promulgation of the Constitution, it was not maintained during the implementation phase. He expressed optimism that the endorsement of the Bill will secure the desired achievements and reinforce national unity.
Dahal highlighted the peace process as a home-grown initiative designed to protect pluralism, strengthen democratic systems, and promote social justice and full democracy. He affirmed his commitment to preserving the spirit of the peace process, recalling the late Girija Prasad Koirala, one of the signatories of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA). Dahal pledged to honor Koirala’s legacy by ensuring the peace process remains alive and effective.
The Maoist Centre Chair emphasized that the agreement between the Maoist Party and the seven-party alliance laid the foundation for Nepal’s inclusive and democratic republic. He praised the peace process as a global model, citing achievements such as the drafting of a new Constitution, army integration, and arms management.
Dahal also commended the task force for resolving contentious issues within the TRC Bill and acknowledged the ongoing challenge of implementing the Bill effectively. He expressed gratitude to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the international community for their support in bringing Nepal’s home-grown peace process to a successful conclusion.
