Adverse Weather Affects Air Travel Across Nepal
Air travel across Nepal has experienced disruptions due to adverse weather conditions. Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reported significant impacts on both domestic and international flights due to poor visibility.
According to Subas Jha, the spokesperson for the airport, several international flights were affected, with some being diverted and others put on hold. Notably, an Air China plane was diverted, and aircraft from Sichuan Airlines remain on hold.
“The visibility at the airport has been hampered by adverse weather conditions. Just an hour ago, visibility stood at a mere 1,600 meters, but it has now improved to 2,500 meters,” stated Jha. “Gradually, international flights on hold are beginning to land.”
Furthermore, operations at Pokhara International Airport have been suspended, with no domestic flights currently scheduled. However, flight services in the Terai region continue to operate as usual.
At Tribhuvan International Airport, 30 airlines, including three Nepalese carriers, manage international flights. Additionally, there are 20 air service providers operating at the domestic level, which include 12 helicopter companies facilitating travel within Nepal.
