Adverse Weather Disrupts Domestic Flights Across Nepal
Adverse weather conditions and poor visibility have disrupted air travel across the country, affecting domestic flights to multiple destinations.
While flights under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are operating at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, several airports outside the capital remain non-operational due to low visibility.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, flights are currently limited to Bhadrapur, Bharatpur, Pokhara, and Surkhet, while other domestic airports are unable to operate services in the morning. Both domestic and international flights at TIA, however, continue to run as scheduled.
Buddha Air spokesperson Dipendra Kumar Karna confirmed that flights to these four destinations are ongoing but noted that heavy fog in the Tarai region has delayed airport operations.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division attributes the weather disruptions to the partial influence of a westerly low-pressure system, resulting in partly to generally cloudy conditions across most parts of the country.
Travelers are advised to check for updates before heading to the airport as weather conditions continue to impact flight schedules.
